At first glance, Recent Advances in Uveitis might connote a textbook that reviews progress on uveitis, a subject many ophthalmic clinicians consider a challenging field in ophthalmology. This impression would be erroneous because the book is not a textbook but rather a written compendium of most of the oral presentations of the Third International Symposium on Uveitis, held in Brussels, Belgium, May 24 through 27, 1992. The symposium was held under the auspices of the International Uveitis Study Group. There were 325 participants from 35 countries.
This book is organized similarly to the way the actual symposium was organized, with articles arranged into different categories, including basic research, epidemiology, infectious diseases, vasculitis, new approaches to diagnosis, new medical therapies, and new surgical therapies. The "Table of Contents" further subdivides these topics.
