Arnall Patz, MD, Receives Inaugural Helen Keller Prize. Arnall Patz, MD, former president of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and William Holland Wilmer chairman emeritus of the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, Baltimore, Md, has been awarded the inaugural Helen Keller Prize for vision research. The prize, sponsored by the Helen Keller Eye Research Foundation, was presented in commemoration of a lifetime of achievement. In particular, the Foundation recognized Dr Patz's contributions to the discovery of the cause of retinopathy of prematurity and his work with the argon laser and laser photocoagulation. The award, which was presented at the annual meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology in May 1994, includes a medallion, a print of Helen Keller, and an unrestricted grant of $30 000. The Foundation, whose directors include members of Helen Keller's family and prominent physicians and scientists, conducts eye research at its headquarters in Birmingham, Ala
