We read with great interest in the ARCHIVES the article "Comparison of Excimer Laser Treatment of Astigmatism and Myopia" by Taylor et al.¹ The results published led to the authors' conclusion that "excimer laser surgery offers an effective option in the treatment of myopic astigmatism." However, in analyzing the data presented, it seems that this conclusion is not fully justified. In Figure 4 of their article, preoperative astigmatism is compared with postoperative astigmatism in each individual patient. It is evident from our scattergram (Figure) that most of the eyes had less than 1.50 diopters (D) of preoperative astigmatism. In 12 of these eyes, the initial astigmatism was 1.00 D or less, in six eyes it was between 1.00 and 1.50 D, and in only three eyes it was between 2.00 and 3.00 D.
