We read the letter of Glaser and Siegfried with great interest. However, we fail to accept their impression that the lesion we described is hypertrophic nevus flammeus. Several major textbooks of dermatology, including our referenced Pathology of the Skin by Farmer and Hood as well as Clinical Pediatric Dermatology by Hurwitz (Philadelphia, Pa: WB Saunders Co; 1981), Ackerman's Diseases of the Skin by Domonkos et al (WB Saunders Co; 1982), and Histopathology of the Skin by Lever and Schaumburg-Lever (Philadelphia, Pa: JB Lippincott; 1983) fail to recognize the entity hypertrophic nevus flammeus.
