The data depicted show that approximately 78% of ophthalmologists who perform cataract surgery do fewer than 100 cases per year, not that 78% of cases of cataract surgery are done by providers who do fewer than 100 cases per year. Our data do suggest that surgeons who perform fewer than 200 cases annually do the majority of cataract surgery cases in the United States. This will be addressed in greater detail in next month's column.
