To the Editor.

—Krebs et al,¹ in their case report, suggested that a scleral patch could be placed over an exposed or extruding implant valve to prevent devastating infection.

The authors cited the experience of Watzke,² who in fact reported only partial success with this technique. We are more intrigued with the promising results reported in 1991 by Dresner et al.³ In their report, autologous fascial grafts from either the fascia lata femoris or the temporal fascia were placed over exposed retinal buckles. One patient of particular interest had a scleral patch graft that had melted. His condition was stabilized by grafting the fascia.
