Neuro-ophthalmology is not a field that can be deeply appreciated with a casual interest. Hence, many who have been attracted to the field have found themselves in a liturgical void despite the availability of numerous well-written books on the subject—texts either have served as primers, which do not satisfy those who are more than curious, or they have been highly specialized, aimed at devotees.

Glaser's textbook distinguishes itself from others by providing a thorough approach to the most common clinical problems and brief discussions of the esoteric. Excellent bibliographies make it easy to seek one's own level of interest. Orchestrating a textbook with 14 authors while maintaining the fundamental theme is nettlesome, but Glaser has adroitly accomplished the task.
