—I am embarrassed for Dr Kershner and IOLAB Corp for such an amateurish and unscientific attempt at damage control of the discoloration problem as it affects the LI-30 and LI-20 IOLs. Some of the allegations, speculations, and conclusions are so ludicrous and absurd that responding to them specifically would be below my dignity. We are proud of our world-class facilities and staff. We do not have any sinister Frankenstein-type laboratories dedicated to trying to make silicone IOLs turn brown.

As a physician and clinical research investigator, I have a duty to my patients and colleagues, the manufacturers, and the Food and Drug Administration to report any adverse reactions that may occur. It is unfortunate that some reactions occur in the human body that are not planned; this is precisely why we have these reporting safeguards.
