Since the earliest medical writings, physicians have compiled useful information into lists. Ocular Differential Diagnosis was written with the purpose of enabling ophthalmologists to develop differential lists for nearly any clinical problem that they may encounter. This book is not intended to be a textbook and, in fact, there is hardly any text. Instead, the book's pages are composed of tables, lists, and algorithms intended to provide thorough data for differential diagnosis.

The book is organized into lists of signs or symptoms as they relate to a particular region of the eye. At the beginning of the book, the reader is instructed to find the number of the page that has the listings of the signs and symptoms pertaining to the specific region of interest.
