—I appreciate Dr Wand's interesting comments regarding our recent case report. The cases with cholesterosis bulbi reported by Dr Wand and colleagues in 1975¹ occurred in chronically diseased, blind eyes with long-standing retinal detachments. Some had suffered from hemorrhage in the vitreous cavity. Three eyes had anterior chamber crystals. The source of the crystals was presumed to be the vitreous cavity and/or the subretinal space. In most cases, this was based on pathologic examination of the eyes after enucleation. In contrast, the eye in our case did not suffer from phthisis bulbi and did not have a retinal detachment. Ophthalmoscopy and ultrasonography failed to disclose crystals or blood in the posterior segment. In addition, no communication was noted from the vitreous cavity to the anterior chamber.
