This work explores the anatomic vulnerability of the optic nerve as it passes from the orbit to the intracranium through a narrow canal surrounded by arteries, bone, and dura. The text provides individual chapters on anatomy, clinical signs and symptoms, electrophysiologic testing, neuroradiologic findings, and a surgical approach to lesions in this area. Six authors contributed to this volume.

This book is designed to appeal to clinicians, radiologists, and neurosurgeons. The desire for wide appeal necessarily results in some oversimplified chapters. For instance, the section on clinical features is basic for an experienced clinician; however, this approach is justifiable because the chapter provides a summary of clinical features that might be useful for radiologists or surgeons.
