—We read with interest the EXPEDITED PUBLICATION of the report on the multicenter trial of cryotherapy for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and the recommendations of the study group.¹ It seemed relevant to compare the results with our own experience with ROP over the past 11 years, so the ophthalmological notes were reviewed of all infants born in or transferred to the Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne, between 1977 and 1987, who had reached stage III ROP according to the International Commission on ROP (ICROP) classification. The ROP had previously been staged using the Keith² classification, which is similar to the ICROP's and includes diagrams to show the site and extent of the disease, and the degree of vascular engorgement and tortuosity.
