Paul Kayser International Award of Merit in Retina Research Awarded.

—Professor H. Gobind Khorana, PhD, who is the Alfred P. Sloan Professor, departments of biology and chemistry, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, received the Paul Kayser International Award of Merit in Retina Research for his investigations on the chemistry and molecular biology of rhodopsin. Professor Khorana's investigations led to the total synthesis of the gene for bovine rhodopsin along with studies on its subsequent expression and mechanisms of action.

Professor Khorana is a native of Raipur, India, and was formally educated in India and England at leading universities where he received training as a biochemist. Subsequent faculty appointments have been held at Stanford (Calif) University; Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass; University of Wisconsin, Madison; and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.
