To the Editor.

—As coauthor of Coping With Sight Loss: The VISION Resource Book, cited by Parrish¹ as a "handy reference guide," I felt compelled to respond to his editorial. In nearly 20 years' experience in the rehabilitation field, I have spoken with thousands of men and women who are learning to live with vision loss through information and referral services; professional and peer counseling; training in the use of adapted aids and equipment; and employment counseling, training, and retraining—all steps in the rehabilitation process. Yet there are many more individuals who have not participated in this process because they have no knowledge of rehabilitation resources.

Where Dr Parrish points out that ophthalmologists must "educate ourselves about the rehabilitation opportunities that are available," I would argue that rehabilitation professionals must also accept their responsibility to educate physicians about rehabilitation.
