To the Editor.

—Coloboma of the eye is a common malformation that may occur as an isolated finding in otherwise healthy individuals. Ocular coloboma can also be associated with a variety of nonocular abnormalities, including mental retardation, polydactyly, and cleft lip or palate. Associated neurologic abnormalities have included agenesis of the corpus callosum and sensorineural deafness.¹

A patient with bilateral iris coloboma and hypothalamic hypogonadism is described herein. In view of the common neuroectodermal origin of the iris and the hypothalamus, the association of hypothalamic disease with ocular coloboma may be more than fortuitous.
