To the Editor.

—I would like to offer my compliments to Dr Goldbaum¹ for his detailed review of computerized access to knowledge and information. In his article, he emphasizes the advantages of making one's own search. To this I offer the following caveat—one must know the indexing system for each database or journal.

My warning stems from the frustration and irritation I experienced in an attempt to locate a recent epidemiologic article on ocular trauma published in the ARCHIVES during the past year. Because I like doing my own searches too, I have made a habit of filing each year's, or volume's, index of the ophthalmic journals I read in a loose-leaf notebook

for ready reference.
