Annual reviews and compendiums are a means by which physicians keep pace with the vast amount of medical literature published each year. While the 1986 Year Book of Ophthalmology and the Ophthalmology Annual: Nineteen Eighty-Seven are designed to inform clinicians of substantive changes in ophthalmology, they attempt to achieve this goal using very different formats.
The 1986 Year Book of Ophthalmology has been published as a separate volume in the yearbook series since 1957. The 1986 edition contains 215 scholarly abstracts from 53 journals and 11 succinct essays that serve as chapter introductions. Its 14 chapters encompass the spectrum of ophthalmic subspecialities plus basic sciences, medical ophthalmology and drug therapy, and vision, refraction, and contact lenses.
