—Although most of the comments and criticisms in Dr Alexander's letter are directed to the article by Smith and coauthors,¹ our letter to the editor,² published in the same issue, is mentioned. To respond adequately, we wish to refer Dr Alexander and the reader to the in-depth articles on anterior chamber intraocular lenses (IOLs) that were published in the March 1987 issue of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.^3,4 These two essays provide detailed clinicopathologic correlations for anterior chamber lens-induced complications. They also identify the features that differentiate a lens that is likely to provide good results from a lens that is likely to cause complications. Also, we wish to provide an update of our anterior chamber lens data that, in our opinion, further substantiates the conclusions we have drawn.
