Information available from journals and books or at the library can be greatly enhanced by what we can obtain through electronic libraries in the home, office, or laboratory. The electronic library is an idea whose time has come, because it fills a need. What type of information is accessible? How easy is it to obtain? How do we do it?

You are examining a patient with widespread retinitis in one eye for a week and a history of herpes simplex encephalitis treated two months previously with systemic acyclovir. In less than ten minutes, you have a list from MEDLINE of four articles describing herpes simplex encephalitis and retinitis in adults.
