This translation of Eighteen Lectures on Optics by Isaac Barrow is a book of interest to students of optics, as well as students of the history of optics. Barrow (1630-1677) was an English mathematician and theologian who is best remembered as Isaac Newton's teacher and friend at Cambridge University. This translation was done by H. C. Fay, and the work was edited by A. G. Bennett and David F. Edgar.

In the preface, Dr Bennett notes that his interest in this work began when he discovered a copy of the original 1669 edition of Barrow's optical lectures in the library of the British Optical Association. Dr Bennett photocopied the text and by 1961 had translated the key passages in the work sufficiently to contribute a paper to the International Optical Congress of 1961 in London.
