—Congratulations to Dr Mansour and his colleagues for confirming our findings. We would like to emphasize that although fluorescein angiography showed the presence of ectatic, dilated, leaking perifoveal capillaries, the histopathology, in fact, is quite different. On light and electron microscopic study, Green et al1 found the capillary lumens to be, in fact, narrowed. Other retinal capillary changes were found to be similar to those observed in the prediabetic and diabetic state. Again, this raises the notion of whether these two diseases, parafoveal telangiectasis and diabetic retinopathy, are related. Further large demographic and epidemiologic studies are required to examine this relationship. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
