Compiled by the parents of visually impaired children for the parents of visually impaired children, this resource manual is a welcome addition to the field of rehabilitation. The manual is divided into the following two sections: an introduction about the services needed for children with visual impairments and a directory of those services available in the commonwealth of Massachusetts. Off to a Good Start is, in fact, the first comprehensive directory of these services to be published in Massachusetts. Both the parents of visually impaired children and professionals working with them will find the manual an extremely helpful and useful resource.
"... the introduction on the types of support needed for children with visual loss has universal application."
In the field of visual impairment and rehabilitation, most resource manuals lack introductions that place resource listing in a larger context. The introduction in Off to a Good Start is an exception.
