To the Editor.

—An editorial in the ARCHIVES OF OPHTHALMOLOGY stressed the value of and need for prospective randomized clinical trials.¹ We would like to bring to your attention a new clinical trial in glaucoma that recently has been funded by the National Eye Institute, Bethesda, Md, in the hope that some of your readers will participate in this study by referring potentially eligible patients.

The study, entitled "The Fluorouracil Filtering Surgery Study," is designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of subconjunctival 5-fluorouracil as an adjunct to glaucoma filtering surgery. Patients who have had cataract extraction and/or a failed filtering operation and now require filtering surgery will be eligible. On a random basis, half the patients will be assigned to receive daily subconjunctival injections of 5-fluorouracil for 14 days beginning the day after the filtering surgery.
