—In reply to the letter by Solomon¹ and the reply of Garner² on the international classification of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), I agree with Garner's response to Solomon's suggestion that fluorescein angiography would give a better and an exact evaluation of the exact pathology of ROP. Solomon possibly would be correct if the test could be reliably achieved on all patients irrespective of stage or location of disease or general status of the patient. The international classification is primarily a standard of communication of ophthalmoscopically identifiable changes in severity of ROP³.

The question of timing of examination deserves more comment. If one presumes that nothing is available to alter the course of the disease, then the timing of examination is not critical.
