Drs Dyer and Lee are to be thanked for updating Dr Dyer's Atlas of Extraocular Muscle Surgery, the first edition of which was published in 1970. The first edition was a very approachable atlas, with a major focus on the clearly executed diagrams, followed by a concise text summarizing Dr Dyer's personal recommendations. The second edition has the same format. Changes in technique and recommendations since the 1970 edition have resulted in new text grafted to the original edition rather than a major restructuring of the original presentation.

The careful black and white drawings of Mr Denis Lee that formed the bulk of the first edition are reproduced in the second edition unchanged. There are three new diagrams: a tenectomy of the superior oblique muscle using a temporal approach, the Harada-Ito procedure and the Jensen transposition procedure.
