To the Editor.

—On the 12th of December this past year, we enjoyed the gracious hospitality and generous council of a unique man. In recalling the strong impressions remaining with us both, we decided to put these into writing, so that all of us who benefit from Professor Goldmann's works and creative contributions both to our field and to our society at large can come a bit closer to him.

Our thoughts, upon comparison, were quite similar; a mixture of gratitude, inspiration, and, especially, intellectual refreshment was felt as we left Professor Goldmann's apartment in a quiet suburb of Bern, Switzerland. We had come to discuss but one facet of that which has filled his professional life—the solving of theoretical problems encountered in the development or improvement of our ability to examine and analyze physiologic manifestations of ocular disease.
