Pathology Symposium Honors Drs Cogan and Kuwabara.
—A symposium highlighting advances in experimental eye pathology was held at the National Eye Institute (NEI), Bethesda, Md, Feb 14-15, 1985. The symposium was dedicated to Drs David G. Cogan and Toichiro Kuwabara, who have achieved international renown for studies of disease processes in ocular tissues.
In introductory remarks at the symposium, NEI Director Carl Kupfer, MD, described the two as "an extraordinarily productive team of ophthalmic pathologists who have worked together for almost four decades."
More than 100 guests attended the symposium. The speakers told of progress in understanding the pathology of a number of eye diseases, including cataract and uveitis. Many of the findings they reported were obtained through recently developed techniques, such as monoclonal antibody labeling and recombinant DNA procedures.
