—I regret that Stark et al believe we have "misrepresented the intent and content of [their] past articles on extended-wear contact lenses by stating that [they] reported no significant complications." This was not our intent. However, they reported "... good visual results with a minimum of complications,"1 "... no cases of infectious corneal ulcers or scarring or permanent visual loss,"1 and "... no infectious corneal ulcers and no significant corneal neovascularization" (at 22 months' follow-up).2

These statements, which we believed connoted minimal complications with continuous wear of soft contact lenses, did prompt us to review and analyze our own experience3 and that of others.4,5 As reported, we3 did note a significant incidence of potentially serious corneal complications. Others have reported a similar incidence of serious corneal complications, including infected corneal ulcers.4,5
