This atlas consists of 523 fundus photographs and fluorescein angiograms presented in 188 pages. The illustrations are excellent. Especially impressive are the large color montages that are used to present large areas of fundus findings in such disease processes as proliferative vitreoretinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, diabetes, and choroidal tumors. These excellent illustrations are enhanced by the high-quality glossy paper on which the book is printed.
Unfortunately, the text for many of the disease processes is rather superficial and may lead to inaccurate interpretations by the reader. Much of the problem is due to space limitations. It is just impossible to cover definitively all the diseases of the optic nervehead, retina, and choroid in a book of 188 pages, especially when most of the space is occupied by pictures. The superficial coverage is forgivable, however, because the book is intended as an atlas rather than as a text.
