The three authors of this small book describe how they use the argon and YAG lasers to treat glaucoma and secondary cataracts. Their methods are based on extensive clinical experience, and, even if their techniques (like those of all experts in this rapidly developing field) are sometimes personal and idiosyncratic, they are founded on a thoughtful and conservative approach.
Throughout the book, the authors stress that optimal treatment procedures are not yet known, that the long-term effects of anterior segment laser surgery remain undisclosed, and that the laser should not be used indiscriminantly for cases of openangle glaucoma controlled by medication. The gonioscopic landmarks for laser trabeculoplasty are nicely reviewed. The indications for each type of treatment are described, and laser settings are recommended. Possible adverse reactions are described.
For the most part, the book is easy to read and should provide a competent instruction manual for the ophthalmologist who
