This dictionary was designed to meet the needs of almost anyone who has contact with ophthalmology except perhaps fully trained ophthalmologists. The more than 3,000 words or abbreviations are in alphabetical order followed by phonetic pronunciation if indicated, synonyms, category, definitions in lay language, and cross references. Rubin's influence is obvious in the accuracy and brevity of the definitions, in many instances, descriptions of rare systemic diseases affecting the eye. Ophthalmic therapy is also defined, including medications and surgery with line drawings of the various types of intraocular lenses.
This unique booklet is worth the effort that must have been expended, and blank pages at the end are provided for readers to suggest additional definitions to be included in future editions.
