In 1938, Bucklers published a study he had made of 139 cases, and he gave the first concrete report on the method of transmission and distribution of the lesions. . . . Bucklers study was fostered by the Nazi government and we shall see later that he made certain recommendations as to what should be done in attempting to improve the master race. Under totalitarian auspices, Bucklers no doubt had better opportunity for cooperation among the patients than anyone has had before or since.
