We thank Dr Salti and colleagues for their interest in our article1 and for noting 2 significant points.

In reply to the first question they raised, the reason for using not only fundus examination and color fundus photography but also fundus fluorescein angiography to evaluate the grade of retinopathy and maculopathy was that fundus fluorescein angiography allows for more accurate evaluation of the severity of retinopathy or maculopathy. We think that adding fundus fluorescein angiography increased the reliability of our study. Accuracy was increased further by having ophthalmologists who did not know the purpose of this study perform evaluations using both the color fundus photographs and fluorescein angiograms.
