There has recently been great concern about the development of Fusarium fungal keratitis among people wearing soft contact lenses. This serious infection appears to be associated in many cases with the use of ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY). As of May 9, 2006, there were 122 confirmed cases of Fusarium keratitis according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Among 98 cases with complete data collected, 59 of the 93 soft contact lens wearers used ReNu with MoistureLoc, which is higher than the 10% market share of this product. Bausch & Lomb has permanently removed this product from the market.
