Sex Matters in Glaucoma

Since this article does not have an abstract, we have provided the first 107 words of the full text and any section headings.

I was intrigued by Dr Higginbotham’s editorial "Does Sex Matter in Glaucoma?"1 If there is indeed a connection between sex and, specifically, age at onset of menopause with the development of open-angle glaucoma, might it not be worthwhile to further the comparison with the onset of menarche? I would postulate that the total exposure to endogenous estrogen in a woman’s lifetime, from onset to cessation, rather than cessation alone might prove to be the critical variable.

It was a thoughtful and thought-provoking editorial.
