We thank Dr Schachar for his interest in our article and for pointing out the subtle difference in the terminology of the techniques for treating presbyopia. It is obvious that both the scleral expansion plug and the scleral expansion band procedures require inserting silicone material of different dimensions or orientations into the sclera.1-2 In the scleral expansion band procedure, scleral belt loops are created for inserting the bands. For instance, in the study on the effect of scleral expansion band on intraocular pressure (IOP) by Rifkind et al,2 4-mm scleral belt loops were created at 4 oblique quadrants 3.5 mm posterior to the limbus for inserting the 5.5-mm band segments.
