Anton Elschnig, 1886-1939, was a professor of ophthalmology in Prague.
He is best know for his research on the lens capsule, especially the exfoliation
of glass-blowers. The lens remnants seen on the capsule following extracapsular
cataract surgery are known to this day as "Elschnig's pearls."
For his 40th birthday in 1926, a uniface medallic
plaquette (Figure 1) in bronze was created
by the artist Henke.
