Dor (Lyons): Optic neuritis in infectious diseases and particularly
mumps. Dor found optic neuritis in a series of cases of epidemic parotitis.
This occurrence is not infrequent in military hospitals when there are epidemics
of mumps. In general the prognosis is favorable, yet in exceptional cases
atrophy of the nerve results. The treatment consists in the use of purgatives
and diuretics.
