Attempts have been made to determine with the slitlamp the suitability of a cataract for intracapsular operation, and Rohrschneider stated that the presence of water clefts makes the cataract unsuitable for the intracapsular operation in a large proportion of cases and that the nuclear and posterior subcapsular vacuoles and coronaria opacities.
