Manual of Cutaneous Laser Techniques is the second edition of the book written by Dr Alster, a cosmetic dermatologist whose work I have read previously and whose name I know from her frequent articles in Cosmetic Surgery Times. The book is, of course, written from a dermatologist's perspective. As a person with an ophthalmology background, I find it interesting and enlightening to see things from the perspective of another specialty. The manual begins in a unique and refreshing way, with a chapter that covers many of the topics that one should consider prior to treating one's first patient with a laser. After reading this chapter, potential laser surgeons will know what they are getting into and how to go about getting started (if they still wish to).
