WILLIAM MACKENZIE, 1791-1868, ophthalmologist and founder of the Glasgow Eye Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland, in 1824. His book, Practical Treatise on the Diseases of the Eye, first published in 1830, became the standard work in ophthalmology for his generation. This medal, Figure 1 obverse, and Figure 2, reverse, is an example of the annual MacKenzie Award Medal of the Glasgow Eye Infirmary. It was originally made by the sculptress Kathleen Scott, Birmingham, England, in 1931.
