CIRCUMSCRIBED choroidal hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor that may affect central vision.1 Asymptomatic lesions are managed by periodic observation. Treatment is employed when secondary serous retinal detachment threatens or impairs central vision. Treatment options include laser photocoagulation1-2 or low-dose radiotherapy.3
Transpupillary thermotherapy using infrared radiation delivers low-level heating in a uniform pattern with subsequent obliteration of tissue and decrease in tumor thickness.4
We describe a patient with circumscribed choroidal hemangioma who was treated with transpupillary thermotherapy. To our knowledge, this treatment method has not been previously described for choroidal hemangioma.
A 53-year-old white woman had decreased visual acuity in the left eye. Ocular examination revealed a visual acuity of 20/20 OD and 20/100 OS. Fundus examination of the left eye showed a well-circumscribed, orange-red choroidal mass 6x6 mm in . . . [Full Text of this Article] COMMENT
