Robinson Harley first published his text, Pediatric Ophthalmology, in 1975. This was the first truly encyclopedic textbook on what has become the well-defined subspecialty of pediatric ophthalmology. Many ophthalmologists trained during the last 20 years have appreciated the high standards of clinic utility that characterized the previous 3 editions of this book.
The fourth edition, renamed Harley's Pediatric Ophthalmology, carries forward the same clinical perspective. This new edition will seem very familiar to those who have found the previous edition useful in evaluating and treating pediatric ophthalmic problems. Slightly shorter, but virtually the same organization and much of the same material, the current edition has been updated with additional references and improved indexing. New chapters include a needed discussion of examination and diagnostic techniques in the pediatric ophthalmic clinic, and a new chapter on prevention, diagnosis, and management of ocular trauma in pediatric ophthalmology.
