The results of this investigation indicate that 5 X 10(6) and 5 X 10(8)
viable bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) organisms (Mycobacterium bovis
strain) can be safely administered in the subconjunctival region of the eye
of New Zealand albino rabbits without producing toxic effects locally or
within the eye. This study provides a format for testing the applicability
of BCG immunotherapy for experimental melanomas.
