Abstract

• This case of Flavobacterium meningosepticum endophthalmitisin the immediate postoperative period following a penetratingkeratoplasty represents the first known isolation of F meningosepticumfrom the eye and, also, our first encounter with bacterial endophthalmitisfollowing keratoplasty. This case occurred soon after conversionfrom whole eye moist chamber storage to tissue culture storage(McCarey-Kaufman medium). This storage technique may predisposeto development of postoperative endophthalmitis. We offer suggestionsto minimize the possibility of such infection.
