Acute Chorioretinal Infarction in Sickle Cell Trait

Report of a Case

Mervyn R. Stein, MD; Andrew J. Gay, MD

Arch Ophthalmol. 1970;84(4):485-490.

Abstract

A case of probable generalized intravascular sickling in an infant with sickle cell trait is the first reported case of extensive vaso-occlusive disease of the choroid in this disorder. Moreover, ocular manifestations of sickle cell trait have not been observed in infancy. The vascular nature of the patient's generalized disorder was suggested by the chorioretinal lesions and the hemoglobin sickle cell trait pattern on hemoglobin electrophoresis.
