Cataract Extraction Following Retinal Detachment Surgery

Albert L. Ackerman, MD; Morton H. Seelenfreund, MD; H. MacKenzie Freeman, MD; Charles L. Schepens, MD

Arch Ophthalmol. 1970;84(1):41-44.

Abstract

Review of 73 cataract extractions following retinal detachment procedures showed that the retina in 93% of the cases remained reattached during a follow-up period of at least six months. The low incidence of redetachment of the retina indicates that previous successful detachment surgery should not be a deterrent to cataract extraction. The preoperative and surgical management of cataract extraction in these cases is discussed.
