Abstract
An instrument has been developed with a balloon at its tip, which is useful for surgery within the vitreous cavity. Accurate inflation is controlled by a microsyringe. As the balloon is being deflated prior to removal from the vitreous cavity, its volume occupying space is replaced by air or saline injected through one of the barrels of a double barreled cannula.
