Pathological Complications

Abstract
The pathological findings were reviewed in 17 eyes enucleated for complications arising after the insertion of an artificial lenticular implant into the anterior chamber. Advanced corneal endothelial dystrophy was the primary reason for enucleation in six cases, three of which showed dense retrocorneal membranes. Intractable glaucoma was the main reason for enucleation in ten cases, four of which gave evidence of epithelialization of the anterior chamber. Severe iridocyclitis was a prominent clinical and pathological finding in five cases. Complications included a characteristic deformity of the anterior chamber angle, hyperpigmentation of the anterior iris surface, iris atrophy with pupillary distortion and associated retinal detachment.
