Infection of the Orbit by an Atypical Mycobacterium
Robert A. Levine, MD
Arch Ophthalmol. 1969;82(5):608-610.
Abstract
A Negro child developed a chronic, debilitating disease which simulated Schüller-Christian-Hand disease. Biopsy and culture of bilateral orbital masses revealed the presence of atypical mycobacteria of the Avian-Battey strain. The organisms were subsequently recovered from other body sites. The unusual clinical and histopathological features of this case were probably related to the biologic activity of this rare and atypical mycobacterium.
